DRIFT - artist statement by ANNIE FRANKLIN
A word that conjures a variation of moods and images.
It describes a gentle meandering, or a general meaning.
A boat drifts on the ocean, the clouds drift behind the tall forest, the smoke of the campfire drifts into the background.
A word that can portray some sense of the life of a visual artist. Ideas and images drift around, the artist drifts from one to another.
These paintings have been created, for the most part, en plein air, from the landscape surrounding the NSW south coast. They describe weekends camping in the rainforest; summer picnics on the beach; the afternoon light on the lake; the intricate patterns of sealife captured in the rockpool or on the tideline.
