In his third solo exhibition with Marks & Gardner Gallery Dave Groom explores a more barren landscape with his articulate and sensitive eye. This wonderful celebration open on June 5th.
Dave’s eye for detail brings us right into the landscape and into his intimate appreciation of our Great South Land.
A lot of these paintings feature a dead branch that is stuck in a tree and has been there so long that it's covered in moss and has become home to many creatures. “I just loved the fact that here's something that is dead, yet is still very much part of the tree and has a life of its own”.
Some of the other grassy ridge works are more about colour, the wonderful contrasts in tone and texture between hills and the time of day. Almost every South East Queensland resident, and most tourists to our region visit or are aware of the World Heritage listed rainforests of Lamington National Park in the Gold Coast Hinterland.
David Groom’s family were the original pioneers of the famous Binna Burra Lodge in Lamington, which is now listed on the Queensland Heritage Register for its historic significance.
Dave, as the third generation of Grooms still lives and works in a studio he built on the edge of Lamington National Park with his wife and new baby daughter. Dave believes the best way to capture the essence of the landscape is to live in it. – Which he has for all his life. He feels a sense of responsibility to continue the tradition of contemporary Australian Landscape painting.
His latest Gold Coast Show at the Public Gold Cost Gallery runs almost concurrently from 23 May - 5 July. This is his second invitation and aptly titled “Exquisite”.
