Pericles presents a delicious blend of fantasy with reality to achieve levels of incongruity, which are a trademark of his art. He can be simultaneously frivolous, lyrical and dramatic, using excellent and accurate draughtsmanship and technical control to produce arresting images.”
Leon Pericles is widely respected and collected throughout Australia and has been honoured by a Retrospective Exhibition at the Art Gallery of Western Australia. After 40 years of making art there is thankfully no sign of his vital energy, innovation and creativity waning.
His extraordinary creativity and imagination combined with impressive technical skills have resulted in a new body of work for this exhibition at Marks and Gardner Gallery which engages and challenges the viewer to experience his unique sometimes narrative, often whimsical and frequently absurd view of society and landscape.
